One of the hardest things to do as a sports performance coach is to keep the athlete
motivated to work hard in order to achieve their best. With our unique system of training, we have found that particular part
of the job to be easier versus other training methods. In our experience, we have found that our athlete's look
forward to our training sessions because they are fun.
The newest thing in sports performance today is functional training. Functional
training is best described as a return to what is natural and effective. The best functional training for any sport is that
specific sport itself. Although this is a simplified explanation of functional training, it is at the same time the essence
and core of sports. Functional training integrates the best of all training methods in a simple, safe and fun manner.
Most sports performance
programs today have pushed aside the basic fundamentals of sports training--the movement of the human body, and replaced
it with training the body parts. In doing so, we have lost the heart and soul of sports training which, in the past, was the
core of competition. Functional training focuses on the coordinated and integrated movement of the entire body........not
just individual body parts.
When you go for function you can never go wrong.
Mere repetition of a non-stressful muscle contraction
has little effect on changing the functional capacity of skeletal muscles. The critical variable upon which muscular development
depends is the amount of work per unit time. An increased work load, in a shorter time period, provides greater development
potential. The use of “Flexbands” in our training program increases the work load dramatically, which allows us
to shorten the unit time resulting in greater increases in functional capacity. The speed at which functional capacity increases
suggests that the central nervous systems as well as the muscle tissue are equally important in improving functional capacity
as well training capacity.
